「乳がんですね。」と宣告された時のショックは、女性にとってどんなつらいものか。それが、日本人女性にとって、日本語でない言葉で言われた時には、なおさらです。何とも心細く、何を頼ればいいのか、何から始めればいいのか。そんな思いをしてきた乳がん経験者と、そんな思いをしていた人達を家族に持つ仲間が集まって、少しでも力になりたい、手助けをしたいと始まったのが、この「つどい」です。
乳がんの発生率は、カナダ人で8人に1人、日本人で20人に1人と言われていますが、日本人も増える傾向にあるようです。
しかし、近年は良い治療が普及して、病気になっても80%の人が10年以上生存しています。
つまり、早期発見すれば治らない病気ではないのです。
共に励ましあって、つらい時期を乗り越えましょう。
About Tsudoi
“Tsudoi” is a Japanese cancer support group based in Vancouver, acting within the Nikka Health Care Society which is a charitable non-profit organization. In a medical system different from Japan, our goals are to assist with the concerns of breast cancer patients and their families, and help create a supportive environment of care.
Our meetings are congenial, held in a relaxed atmosphere with light-hearted conversation; sharing member’s experiences, questions, information exchange regarding new treatments, etc.
Since no other Japanese support group for breast cancer exists in Vancouver, female patients with other types of cancer and illnesses also participate.
Participation in meetings is free. Support for cancer patients is, of course, given at each meeting. Our goal is to provide Japanese speaking women in the Vancouver area with information and support.
A variety of members actively participate as volunteers in many way. Please feel free to contact us whenever you have a question or at any stage of the breast cancer journey.
